It’s a sunny start here on the Solent this morning and the Royal Yacht Squadron Race Committee have announced that the Race Around the Island will go ahead as per the schedule. Day 2 at the Royal Yacht Squadron: Wet and very, very fast!

Would they, wouldn’t they go racing this morning? There was anticipation as winds and sea state were still looking strong in the morning, following yesterday’s cancellation at the Royal Yacht Squadron’s Bicentenary International Regatta. But the call was made and racing was on, and it turned out to be a good decision.

Day 2 - 28th July- Changes to race schedule

1240 - Class Zero has started, and the J Class are not sailing today.

1115 - J Class fleet will race in the Eastern Solent.

0950 - The Race Committee have announced that the J Class and Class Zero fleet starts will be postponed. The J Class will start at 1200 earliest, and Class Zero at 1210. The reason for this postponement is the continuation of high wind readings. The rest of the IRC classes will continue their start sequences as scheduled.

Day 2 - racing to go ahead

It is intended to race this morning Tuesday 28th July as per the schedule. The Race Committee have announced that the first warning signal for the J Class will be at 1020. The J Class and Class 0 will race to the Western Solent and finish on the Gurnard Line. All other classes will race to the East and finish on the RYS line. Course information will be on VHF Ch 05.

Gusts up to 30 knots kept sailors ashore on the first day of the Bicentenary Int’l Regatta, but sailors’ patience was rewarded last night with a fun & interactive panel discussion featuring Americas Cup skippers Jimmy Spithill and Sir Ben Ainslie, and skipper of the all-female Volvo Ocean Race Team SCA, Sam Davies.
