Carina
Carina, a McMurdy & Rhodes Sloop, is owned by the Commodore of the New York Yacht Club who will be representing the club for the regatta. She was launched in 1969 and has an illustrious career as a Corinthian entry in a wide range of races. She has competed in 21 Newport-Bermuda races, more than any other boat, winning first Bermuda Race in 1970 followed by wins in 2010 and 2012. Carina has won the US Northern Ocean Racing Trophy in 1970 and 2010. She won the Transatlantic Race to Spain in 1972 and placed second in class in the Transatlantic Race 2011, followed by a class win in the Fastnet Race, then participation in the Sydney-Hobart Race and a complete circumnavigation. She will be competing again in the Transatlantic Race in 2015, which will bring her to Cowes for the RYS Bicentenary.
Her owner, Rives Potts is the President and COO of Brewer Yacht Yards. He was an integral part of Dennis Conner’s Freedom program in a successful defence of the 1980 America’s Cup and has sailed in four other America’s Cups. He also sailed with Ted Turner in the infamous 1979 Fastnet Race. The Transatlantic Race 2015 is his second on Carina.
