Athena
Athena is an 8 metre, built and designed by Tore Holm (Sweden) for Marcus Wallenberg and launched in 1939. She won the Coppa d’Italia (8M World Championship) that year. The present owners since 2006 are Jonathan Cork (aka Earl of Cork & Orrery) and David Glasgow.
David Glasgow belonged to the Ranelagh Sailing Club in the late 50s as schoolboy, and was at BRNC Dartmouth where he was Secretary of Yachting 1962-4. He raced offshore between 1973-09 in MATCHLESS, including Cape-Rio 1976. He sailed in the Daring Class from 1979-2005 and was its Hon Sec 1983-6. He is currently the Hon Sec of the British Eight Metre Association, a post that he has held since 2007.
